Concrete surface retarders are a type of building material chemical used for retarding or delaying the setting pace of the top layer of a concrete surface. Therefore, it is also called a deactivator as it deactivates the setting of the top layer of a concrete surface. Furthermore, depending on type, a concrete surface retarder is either water-based or solvent-based. These are widely used during the construction of exposed aggregate concrete surfaces for aesthetical as well as functional purposes.
