“Tissue processing” describes the steps required to take animal or human tissue from fixation to the state where it is completely infiltrated with a suitable histological wax and can be embedded ready for section cutting on the microtome.Tissue processing is a procedure of removing water from cells and replacing it with a medium which solidifies allowing thin sections to be cut on a microtome. Tissue processing is routinely done on an instrument called Tissue Processor.

Microwaves have long been used for research laboratory sample processing to significantly reduce sample process time.By using microwave, heat is generated from within the tissues which warms the tissue block uniformly in a short time. This results in faster penetration of tissue processing chemicals inside tissues resulting in rapid processing for making paraffin blocks. Therefore, microwaves have a great potential to shorten the processing time of tissues and hence their utility in rapid processing of tissues is being increasingly utilized.
